Number of hours to meet the requirement for initial onboarding training

  • Private-Pay Agency Caregiver: No specific initial training requirements. Agencies must choose one of four regulatory pathways (e.g., HHA training, national accreditation, or Ohio public-pay requirements) to be licensed.
  • Homemaker (Medicaid): 20 hours of topic-specific training, to be completed before providing services.
  • Personal Care Aide (Medicaid, PASSPORT Program): 30 hours of initial training, per recent Ohio HB 33 changes.
  • Home Health Aides (HHAs), State-Licensed Agencies (Medicaid, HCBS: PASSPORT): 75 hours of training (59 hours didactic / 16 hours clinical).
  • Home Health Aides (HHAs), CMS Certified: 75 hours of training (59 hours didactic / 16 hours clinical), to be completed before providing services independently.
