Number of hours to meet the requirement for initial onboarding training

  • In-Home Caregiver - 12 hours of which 4 hours of orientation are conducted by the agency administrator, administrator's designee, or administrator's delegate before independently providing services to clients and the other 8 hours of topic-specific training 2 hours must be obtained prior to a caregiver providing in-home care services and 6 hours may be obtained prior to providing in-home care services or after initial services through on-the-job training or other means within 120 days of hire
  • Home Health Aides (HHAs) - 75 hours
  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNAs) - 155 hours

Number of hours to meet the requirement for annual training

  • In-Home Caregiver - 6 hours
  • Home Health Aides (HHAs) - 12 hours
  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNAs) - no annual training requirement for certification renewal. Must adhere to training requirements for the care setting in which they work.

Caregivers can get the following training through CareAcademy

  • In-home Caregivers need to complete a state-approved training which CareAcademy offer.
  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNAs) are not required to take annual training. CareAcademy recommends CNAs take 12 hours annually for best practices which CareAcademy offers.
  • Medication Administration Requirement - Oregon allows caregivers to offer some medication administration. They must take a topic-specific training through either an "Approved Entity" (aka training program) or a "Qualified Individual" (aka nurse, see definition below in Regulations).   • Cultural Competency Requirement - Licensees must complete an average of at least one hour of cultural competency education per year during an audit period.
