  • Home Health Aides (HHAs), which are Certified Nurse Aides (CNAs) in the state.

Number of hours to meet the requirement for initial onboarding training

  • Personal Care Aides (Private-Pay, Home Care): Personal Care Aides must complete 6 hours of initial training prior to providing services, including an introduction to first aid.

  • Personal Care Aides (Public-Pay, Personal Care Services Waiver, Home Care): Personal Care Aides must complete topic-specific training before providing services, with first aid training being a required topic.

  • Personal Care Aides (Public-Pay, Home Health Agency): Personal Care Aides must complete 6 hours of initial training prior to providing services. This can be prorated in the first year of hire. First aid training is also required.

  • Home Health Aides (HHAs): There are no distinct Home Health Aide (HHA) requirements in Utah. Home Health Aides are considered Certified Nurse Aides (CNAs), so they must meet the state’s CNA training requirements.

  • Personal Care Aides (Public-Pay, Home Health Agency): Must complete 6 hours of continuing education annually. One mandated topic is abuse prevention, with other topics selected by the agency's training program manager.

  • Home Health Aides (HHAs): There are no continuing education requirements for Home Health Aides, as they are considered CNAs in Utah.
