Number of hours to meet the requirement for initial onboarding training

  • Companion Sitter: There are no specific hourly requirements, but caregivers must demonstrate competency before providing services. Regulations are outlined in Chapter 111-8-65-.09 (5) (d) 2.
  • Personal Care Aide: Caregivers require 40 hours of training, with 20 hours completed prior to providing services and the remaining 20 hours within six months of hire. Regulations include GDCH Chapter 111-8-65-.09 (5) (c) 1 (iv).
  • Personal Support Aide (EDWP - CCSP and SOURCE): Caregivers require 40 hours of training, with 20 hours completed prior to providing services and the remaining 20 hours within six months of hire.
  • Structured Family Caregiver: Caregivers require training on the participant’s assessed needs, which includes 20 hours prior to providing services and 20 hours within six months. First Aid certification is also required.
  • Home Health Aide: Caregivers require 75 hours of training (59 hours of classroom and 16 hours of clinical training) to meet federal requirements for agency certification and Home Health Aide training under CFR Title 42, Vol. 3, 484.

Number of hours to meet the requirement for continuing education

  • Companion Sitter: Caregivers need 8 clock hours of training annually after the first year of employment. Training topics should align with assigned duties and responsibilities, as outlined in Chapter 111-8-65-.09 (6) (b).
  • Personal Care Aide: Caregivers need 8 hours of annual training. Regulations include GDCH Chapter 111-8-65-.09 (6) (b) and Non-Medicaid HCBS Section 318.13 (a) (4).
  • Personal Support Aide (EDWP - CCSP and SOURCE): Caregivers require 8 hours of annual training. Yearly in-services include topics such as Basic First Aid, Infection Control, Body Mechanics, Nutrition, and CPR.
  • Structured Family Caregiver: Caregivers require 8 hours of annual training, including certified First Aid and CPR training.
  • Home Health Aide: Caregivers need 12 hours of annual training, as required by federal regulations under CFR Title 42, Vol. 3, 484.
