Number of hours to meet the requirement for initial onboarding training

  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNAs) - no annual training requirement

Caregivers can get the following training through CareAcademy

  • Home Care Aides (HCAs) also known as Long Term Care Workers (LTCWs) need 75 hours of training with a state approved training program, and they must take a state certification exam. They need to take 12 hours of training annually to retain their certification. CareAcademy offers 5 of the 75 hours and annual training to meet immediate initial and continuing education requirements. CareAcademy HCA certification training is coming soon!
  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNAs) must take a state approved training program and pass a state-approved certification exam. They are not required to take annual training. CareAcademy recommends CNAs take 12 hours annually for best practices which CareAcademy offers. 

What do you need to know about caregiver training requirements?

Caregiver training requirements are determined by the care setting in which they work. All caregivers must meet a minimum standard of training and certification and may require additional training depending on their care setting. Care settings in Washington state are required to be licensed. The different Agency license types in Washington include:
